After addressing each scenario, Blaine proceeds to ask questions that, when answered, can help guide the reader in the right direction regarding their career.
Adapt is thought provoking and creates a sense of urgency to implement a plan to hedge against technological advancements that could potentially jeopardize a brokers career.
In addition to the above, Blaine offer several strategies and resources that brokers can utilize in order to give them an upper hand in the face of such technological advancements.
Adapt is a must-read for every broker, no matter what stage of their career they’re in. I would also advise that students contemplating a career in real estate read this book.

Having spent nearly 20 years in financial services and surviving the Great Recession, the path into commercial real estate four years ago was paved largely by seasoned brokers who have weathered similar storms and know how to adapt to change. Blaine Strickland does an incredible job breaking down all the factors that impact change in our business and why it’s so important to understand the value you bring to your clients. At a time when Covid has interrupted supply chains, jobs, and the gdp, Adapt drives home an even bigger phenomenon and that’s disruption in the marketplace and technology. If you want to think ahead you have to stay ahead.

Engaging, well-researched view of the future of the commercial real estate industry
Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2020
Disruption has been in the headlines, the focus of conferences and at the heart of many strategic plans of late - in Adapt, Blaine does an excellent job of laying out the issues, as they will effect the business of commercial real estate, in a quantified, no-nonsense but entertaining approach. After finishing the book you will be looking at every headline differently - imagining the unimaginable and finding opportunities tucked in unexpected places.
I really enjoyed the action points at the end of each chapter, as well as a multitude of source for further research. As an advisor in the industry, I can only imagine how this book could impact the career direction of those entering it now and over the past ten years. So many in our industry, as Blaine points out, just will not be engaging in this new paradigm as the runway is just too short. But those with years to invest - would be fools not to heed this advice, following up on every opportunity to dig deeper.
Enjoyable read that includes what you need to know, where you need to look further and a wake up call that the future really is going to look different. I just wish Blaine had the chance to add another chapter that captured the disruption of a world on hold due to COVID19. #ADAPT

If you're investing the next 20 years of your career in commercial real estate brokerage, read this book. Blaine's insights will save you years of agony. Don't wait. It'll cost you too much.
Be warned. When you read this book, you'll feel disturbed and may even wonder why you're in this business in the first place. You may also wonder why it's not entitled "Agitate." But, press into how Blaine will help you thrive.
Each chapter reveals vanishing competitive advantages. You'll learn that you're no longer an information gatekeeper. You're no longer the hero. Your exposure to the Amazon, Ten X, or PWC effect is a liability.
Your lunch is on their menus, and they're out to eat it. If you don't align yourself correctly with these changes, you'll go extinct.
Each chapter concludes with actionable steps. Every step will guide you into the transformation to be better suited to the emerging commercial real estate brokerage environment.
Thankfully, Blaine's taken the time to reflect on signposts that will represent changes in your business and how to pivot in time to remain competitive.
Buy this book. It's a must-have for what's ahead.

Thought-provoking is just the beginning!

I loved Blaine's previous book, Thrive, with it's many terrific ideas to put the profit in commercial real estate brokerage while diminishing the pain. In his visionary book, Adapt, Blaine treats us to a deep dive into his thoughts, insights and research into the tectonic shifts to come in the commercial real estate industry. For a practitioner for almost 40 years, and a CCIM for 25 years, with a daughter who joined me in the business, Blaine's view of how the business is likely to unfold is, by turns, frightening, inspiring and exciting. With his insightful book as a guide, we will doubtless avoid many potential potholes as generational and structural changes disrupt an industry that has been resistant to change over many decades. This is a MUST-READ for you and your team!

The perfect challenge to the "traditional" way of thinking about CRE
Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2020
As a 15 year practitioner in CRE, a Xennial (for generational categorizations sake), I have seen technology impact the market, the up and down of the Great Recession, and much of the "traditional" ways of doing things challenged. I think Blaine did a fantastic job in achieving what I believe to be his overarching goal: making us all open our eyes, be willing to break the mold if it makes sense, and question whether or not "the way its always been" is the right way for tomorrow. I further appreciate that he didn't pretend to be a prophet and know for sure what "the one thing" was that would change the CRE market next. Rather, for me it was a training in how to be better aware of what's going on around us and to know for sure that Disruption is an inevitability, and its our job as practitioners to be on watch and adapt to it as it comes.

An insightful look at the changes ahead for CRE
Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2020
A great book that tackles the trend of disruption as it applies to the commercial real estate industry. Readers of "Adapt" may find the assertions made eye-opening & revelatory, or they may be validation of trends already noticed or suspected. Most likely the book will contain some of both of these for anyone actively engaged in the commercial real estate arena.
Whatever your level of experience or role in the industry happens to be, the truths in the book about the coming change should be paid close attention to, and Blaine Strickland offers plenty of well-illustrated scenarios and possibilities to show the impact of this imminent disruption. There’s ample thought-provoking points made throughout the book, and suggested actions are included at the end of each chapter to help you dive deeper into an examination of how the commercial real estate world is changing, and what it might look like in the very near future.
Regardless of whether these coming changes generate excitement or dread as you consider them, this book promises to kick-start your exploration into the possibilities of “what if...?” that will leave you better prepared for the changes that lie ahead for commercial real estate.

Don't Get Blindsided by CRE Disruption
Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2020
Commercial real estate is not immune to disruption. It is coming. It's coming faster than ever and from multiple directions at once.
Strickland posits that no one knows exactly where, when and how the disruption is coming but that it is massively beneficial to look at trends both inside and outside our industry to be aware of your vulnerabilities and opportunities. Whether you and your business will take that change in stride, be severely hurt by it or substantially benefit from it has everything to do with how soon you recognize what's coming and adapt to it.
Unlike his his previous book "Thrive" (a must read for every CRE Broker) this book does not provide prescriptions/solutions but thought provoking data, trends and stimulating questions for you and your team to process that will ultimately allow you to stay in and even sharpen your game rather than become a dinosaur.

Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2020
I purchased and read Blaine Strickland's new book "Adapt" and highly recommend it for anyone in the commercial real estate (CRE) Industry. The CRE industry has been slow to adapt on many fronts, running in many ways the same as it did 2-3 decades ago. Blaine's book provides a great overview of these changes, from transparency of data to gig economy. But what I like most is that he then provides actionable steps at the end of each chapter, in bullet point format, which can be incorporated into your day to day practice. The only thing I would change is the introduction, which warns that change is coming. In my opinion, change has already come, and it started around 2012 -2013. So we are well into the accelerating change in the CRE industry.

As a young CRE broker, I'm interested to know where the industry is going over the next 20+ years, and boy - some changes are coming - or already are here! The author (Blaine Strickland) writes a good book that breaks down industry disrupters such as technology (access to widespread information, app and online direct-to-market approaches), economic changes (gig economy, consolidated power of multinational groups and consulting firms), and more, looking at 3 different sections:
1. Client Evolution
2. "Playing with Giants" (large, powerful groups and their effect on the market)
3. Demographic Evolution
Whether you've been in the business for decades or just starting out, everyone in Commercial Real Estate should read this book as we prepare for the way our industry may evolve in the coming days and years ahead.

As a 35-year veteran of the CRE industry, I have read dozens of "How To's", manuals and other works over the years which were geared towards both new to business and more experienced brokers. One of the ways I evaluate a good CRE book is whether or not you take something tangible away that you can put to use in your business right away. In that regard, "Adapt", like "Thrive" before it, is a great example of just such a book, with a ton of practical and proven advice that you can use right now.
Blaine Strickland, CCIM, CRE practitioner, Instructor, Speaker and just all-around great guy has clearly forgotten more about the CRE business than most of us have learned over the years. Whether you are new or a seasoned veteran, I highly recommend you buy this book. In fact, buy them both!

Thrive was the best book I’ve ever read on the history of CRE brokerage and why we are where we are today. It offered simple yet profound principles on the most effective real estate strategies. Adapt takes the forward looking approach, helping real estate professionals proactively ‘Adapt’ to what the future of CRE holds via technology, shifting consumer demands, the gig economy, and much more. Blaine has 40 years in the industry and boils all that knowledge down into a very easily digestible read. All CRE professionals should read this.

Unfortunately, there are not nearly enough comparable resources in our CRE community. Any time you come across a book like this, you MUST purchase and read.
It just so happens that the ideas are fascinating, the research is detailed, and the points are clear, concise, and include pertinent action steps.

I first read 'Adapt' as a member of the advanced team in February (quite an honor!). In his conversational style, Blaine put forth a compelling case that a disruption was coming to the commercial real estate industry. Just a few months later, we’re living in a disruption, and although the magnitude has not been determined, I feel his advice to adapt will be crucial. Regardless of your place in the business — whether owner, broker, manager, etc. — this engaging work will help prepare you for whatever is next.

Extremely well researched and written. Listened to the whole thing in one sitting, as it was too fascinating to put down. Contains incredible statistical/trend based research and data, which Blaine uses remarkably well to paint pictures of the commercial real estate industry's possible futures - as well as potential adaptations that commercial real estate practitioners can take in response. Recommend to anyone in the industry plus anyone who is interested!

In Strickland's latest book, Adapt, he shares insights on some of the game changers in the commercial real estate industry. The chapters are neatly divided and smoothly flow, covering a variety of disruptors in the CRE world. As a commercial real estate banker, I found this information to be insightful and invaluable as we look to the future of the industry. For anyone in the commercial real estate industry, whether just starting out or well-established, this is a must read!
The disruption is everywhere. Things are rapidly changing. The rate of change is speeding up. You feel it all the day, in your own life as well as in your job in the field of commercial real estate.
Bestseller Blaine Strickland examines nine forces which he believes are set to transform your world. You're already aware of some developments taking place and you'll gain useful information about these developments. The other types of change aren't as obvious and Strickland warns you about the possibility of disruption.
This audiobook Strickland divides the forces in three categories:
Changes in our customers
The activities of the largest players on the field
The changing demographics of our working population
While you explore these ideas with the writer you'll be amazed, amused and enthused. This information can be used to gauge, prepare for, and incorporate the destructive and creative nature that is associated with disruption. Strickland acquired these insights through his long career working in the industry, and in various roles, after that, he sharpened them by doing studying and attending conferences, reading and interviews with key people and sharing his thoughts to group discussions. This is a unique collection of thoughts and suggestions supported by research of anecdotes, stories, and actual examples.
