Today’s interview for the Millionaire Secrets Podcast, "From $0 In The Bank To Real Estate Millionaire ", is with my good pal Cody Hofhines.
We really dig deep into the psychology of success today and visit some pretty dark places in Cody’s journey to becoming a real estate millionaire.
In 2008 / 2009 Cody was flat broke.
With two young children to feed and bills coming in, he was only scraping by on $19k per year.
Coming home from work one night, he found his wife crying at the kitchen table.
The reason for her tears? Their finances. With the bills coming in, there was no way to survive for another month.
This was Cody’s breaking point.
Enough was enough.
He promised he’d find a way to make a good life for his young family and give back to the community.
And that’s exactly what he did.
He found a way out.
A way to get started in real estate - even though he had zero in the bank.
Funny thing is, Cody looks back on that tough time as being the complete making of him.
Great things come from hitting rock bottom.
I agree.
The leverage caused by pain can be the rocket fuel you need for success.
Beyond this, we also touch on the need to be a good steward of the money that comes to you.
How to rip-off and duplicate ethically.
And why 67% of NFL football players are broke within 3 years of retirement.

Real Estate Millionaire
The Secret Life of Real Estate and Banking Hardcover – March 1, 2009
by Phillip J. Anderson (Author)
4.7 out of 5 stars
Examining the past of residential cycles across the United States, this examination exposes how the system of banking responds to economic booms and downturns and shows how rules enacted following each crisis tend to fade as boom times come back. With its insightful knowledge and practical tips this book is targeted at both experienced and novice investors looking to understand what causes the real estate cycle to is the way it is and the ways it could be predicted ahead of time and the best way to benefit from this knowledge.
A Five Star rating is the highest Value I could use.

The depth of research this author has done on these cycles is truly inspiring. To 'see' and collate the presented information, with such clarity into a readable and logical step by step process is humbling.
I am heavily involved in Market cycles being a WD Gann follower (for many years now) and would highly recommend this book to any similar likeminded persons.
I am also very "careful" what information I read/spend my hard earned cash on regarding these topics. There are many 'wannabees' in this market plus many that 'wanna help you remove any of your cash that they feel is theirs' with market information that has not been researched correctly with what that author originally spoke/wrote on. Nor do I give financial advice or recommendations on this topic (for the above reasons) but this book is the exception.
Mr PJ Anderson has done his background work. He most assuredly is not in the above wannabee class. His data is continually backed up with facts that can be personally verified and lays out our whole Current financial setup Worldwide and "why is it so?".
If you ever had any doubts about our various countries markets being inter related, read this Book.
P.S. No I am not an employee nor financially tied to Mr Anderson or his company in any way other than a fellow WD Gann supporter.

At some points, without an adequate background in this subject, I struggled. But that was of no consequence; the material is fascinating and the history, a set of amazing stories, builds a picture of 'how things really are' in the material world. I am extremely grateful the author made the effort to put this information into print.
However, some people will dismiss its conclusions, I'm on the author's side here but can offer nothing to change such views. So maybe it comes down to it being a bet as to who is right. Overall, economists of nearly every hue have failed to impress me, but those that do are referenced in this book - and they are kept in the shadows thanks to the boundaries of a selective educational system. So all this enigmatic talk may serve to indicate how deep the material actually goes, or can go for a receptive mind. As simple history it's a revelation. I had no idea the world has consistently been so corrupt!
Overall this is one of a few books I would want the people I love to know and understand, even at a basic level.
Thank you Phil. (I think the sting is in the Dragon’s Tail.)

Considering that the dow just plummeted from 30,000 to 22,000 in the last few days, I can't think of a better time to be reading this book.
Thoroughly enjoyable and incredibly well researched, I am really enjoying it and highly recommend it to anyone with capital exposed to the markets, whether stock or real estate.

An interesting book that was well-researched and insightful. This is a must-read for anyone who professes to be a real estate investor.
Is it has at its core an underlying thesis that, that's a bonafide capitalist and long-term real estate investor, I would prefer to find objectionable. Still I am quick to acknowledge that many of his points and principles are gounded in facts and substantiated by history. Should have been a best seller to smart money crowd.

A fantastic read. Well written. Phillip takes a potentially dry subject and makes it entertaining and informative. It is also a very interesting political and economic history of the USA. Full of insight; this book helped me to understand some of the mechanics and interactions of macroeconomics, the history and the journey to the current day. Buying and reading this book is worth every cent and minute spent.

Very interesting look at Real estate cycles. Living in California I have seen these cycles for myself. Though it was an old landlord that told me about them early in my Real Estate career. This book goes in depth into those cycles and how to anticipate them. I'm making investment decisions based on the information in this book.

The only real estate investment manual you will ever need.. Not only will it teach you the secret to successful investment in land, it has a far more profound message regarding the very needed collection of the "economic rent" of land - the necessary prerequisite for a peaceful and prosperous society.

For all of those cultural risk takers that think 'safe as houses' - I suggest - read this as an antidote.
History has a habit of repeating in very unpleasant ways. Buyer beware or perhaps beware of cycle tops.

Intellectually honest, rigorously researched, and well-written, The Secret Life of Real Estate and Banking is a seminal work in economic theory and history. Filled with useful and original insights, this is an explanation of how “modern” economies work that will not be found in such accessible fashion anywhere else. Challenging our most cherished assumptions, the iconoclastic author provides not only provocation and stimulation but profound value to investors and scholars alike.
Having heavily participated in two full cycles both in the US and down under and now entering my third, I am grateful to Mr. Anderson for his work. I give it my highest recommendation.
