Lead Well: 10 Steps to Successful and Sustainable Leadership Kindle Edition

leadership (verb) lead*er*ship helping others reach the end goal they would not be able to do on their own.

No matter if you've been in the business for years or are just beginning to take on the position the leadership role is an important job which doesn't come with a set of directions. A lot of books on leadership focus on the tips and tricks for business world. Others provide analysis but don't have strategy, and most are confusing and complex. To be an effective leader in the modern world, either in your professional or personal life, you require an easy-to-follow philosophy that has proven results.

In the book, Lead Well The leadership coach and serial business owner Ken Falke presents the ten essential principles to be a successful leader. With strategies that are simple to comprehend and even more simple to apply the book is filled with the wisdom of Ken's more than forty years of the fields of nonprofit, business leadership, and in military. Learn how to become the most effective version of yourself, and inspire others to contribute ideas and reach goals. Leaders who are good at their job know that morals and character are important just as profits and losses. Lean Well is your guide to getting to know the leader in you and becoming the leader you want to be and would like to be.

practical wisdom about how be a leader no matter what position you are in

Why get another leadership book? I asked myself this before I purchase Ken Falke's book. Reading about Ken's work history, and background in the Navy made me curious about his take on leadership. This book did not disappoint and while there are great stories from the Navy, he also talks about his life as an entrepreneur. The book is easy to digest full of examples and stories. Ten chapters with a concise approach to leading and managing people that applies to someone leading a small summer camp to a CEO of a large corporation. We often try to make leadership seem so complicated. People mystify being a manager. While leading and managing are two different talents, this book addresses both and it will improve your game on all levels. Did I mention it was easy to read?

Most Important Leadership Book in a Long Time

Bravo to Ken Falke for writing a leadership book that is personal, practical, and inspiring. Most leadership books have a narrow audience, typically those who already are, or aspiring to be, in formal leadership positions in the public and private sectors. Lead Well is a MUST read for them, but it's also for nonprofit and religious leaders. It's for leaders in academic institutions and community groups. It's for anyone who thinks leadership is beyond their grasp. I've been teaching graduate courses in leadership for 25 years. Lead Well will be required reading for my students.

Although this is a book on leadership the reader will find it is about living well, too. I was struck by how so much of this book is about living out principles of humility and respect for others. So what Ken Falke describes is how to carry on successful relationships, and these principles can be applied to all our relationships. Someone who follows the advice in this book will find application to friendships and family relationships, not only the workplace, and will be living well.

Ken distills decades of leadership experience into a very readable and pragmatic approach to getting teams to a place they would otherwise not get to on their own. As an experienced leader myself I thoroughly enjoyed Ken’s storytelling and how those experiences shaped his leadership style. I’ve taught organizational leadership at the University level and I’d recommend his book to those wishing to refresh and enhance their leadership style - and those learning about it for the first time. Well done.

Ken Falke has provided a tremendous asset to current and future leaders. Having commanded two Navy ships and led large organizations in industry for the past 20 years, I wish I had had a well written, focused book on leadership like this to provide my immediate subordinates. Buy a book for each person in your leadership team. I have read many books on leadership over the course of my career, but this is by far the best. Bob Shields, Captain, USN (ret)

Proven, Realistic, Attainable, steps to better Leadership

Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2021

The steps discussed in this book are specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic and time-specific/tested/proven means to becoming a better leader. If one is honest with themselves and take action toward implementing these steps, they can better themselves and in turn their leadership. If you are here looking for a book that will play to your ego and provide confirmation bias, find something else to read.

Ken does a masterful job of keeping each step in context and making it relatable regardless of the size of your organization/team or your current goals/mission. There are no pages filled with fluff, chest beating, or “look at me”, but rather the steps to help YOU realize your potential and to grow! Do yourself a huge favor, get this book, read it, read it again, then implement the steps in a real and life changing way!

There’s no shortage of leadership books in general, but there is a shortage of leadership books that are based on common sense and wellness-focused principles. I finished the book the day I got it as it really resonated with me. I now have a better idea of my strengths and weaknesses as a leader.

I have had the pleasure of working with Ken Falke for about ten years now. I have witnessed his leadership style and its impact on his successful organizations firsthand. Throughout my thirty year career I have read many books on effective leadership. In comparison to some, Ken's approach seems so basic, yet it is still so profound and relevant. The old saying goes "no one plans to fail, but so many do fail to plan" and their organizations often reflect it. In Lead Well Ken clearly lays out a roadmap with techniques to ensure leaders do just that - lead well.

No substitute for experience

There is a huge difference between being in a 'leadership' role/position (military rank or corporate organization chart) and actually being a good leader. This book provides viable examples of applied leadership styles most people will frequently encounter in their professional careers. Ken recognizes that the difference between the good leader and good manager is the ability to inspire others to exceed their own (self-assumed) capabilities to accomplish goals in a positive manner.
