Ok let me start out by saying, I’m not a “reader”. I have not read a book cover to cover since I had to in college. This book, I received on Monday and by Wednesday I’ve completed it! It’s by no means a very long book but it is a fantastic read! It breaks down the chapters for easy reading and gives you a whole new way of thinking! I will be buying this book again to give as Christmas gifts for a few people. I highly recommend this book to anyone that struggles with some self discipline!
You wanna be successful? Step 1, read this book.

I found myself not wanting to put this book down, I was able to read it in a few days and if I would’ve been off of work I would’ve finished it in a day. The value that this book offers goes way more than what you spend on it. This book will be passed on to friends and family hoping they grasp the skills and determination to become more disciplined. Yeah we all want to be successful but the only way to get there is if you have a solid foundation, self discipline is where it starts. Thank you Daniel Walter.

Helpful reference guide packed with surprises. A toolbox for building a better life
Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2020
For anyone who has ever picked up a self-help book on habits, discipline or the law of attraction, much of what is covered in this book will be familiar. I was pleasantly surprised by the scope of ideas and insights packed into this little book. Much of what is here is covered in other books but this takes all the most powerful points and packs them together in an easy to understand and implement reference. Daniel covers a lot of ground in a few pages and although much of it was known to me, several concepts and details were new and very helpful.
*Spoilers*
What I didn't expect to find, but was most pleasantly surprised by, was the inclusion of meditation, Zen, and Buddhist and Shaolin philosophies and methods.
Being a reformed Christian after 37 years and now a practicing Zen Taoist, I know from personal experience, many religions may be put off by these eastern philosophies because they are believed as false religions, idolization, and even of the Devil. I held these beliefs myself for decades. It wasn't until I actively learned about these practices for myself instead of taking the teachings of my religious teachers at face-value and with blind faith, that I learned the truth of Buddhism, Zen, and Taoism. That is, they aren't religions at all, in fact, they are the complete opposite. It's like growing up never learning math because you were taught math was bad and the work of evil forces.
For anyone who can look past religious dogmas and understand these are not religious teachings or beliefs, but lifestyle ideals that can be used alongside one's personal religion, they will see how incredibly powerful these practices are. The fact these were included in this book with so many other successful methods shows Daniel did his homework. There truly is no greater discipline than learning to quiet the monkey mind and sit in quiet meditation.
This book doesn't cover everything, such as the power of mindset and understanding how having a 'growth' or 'fixed' mindset is essential for any success. Carol Dweck's' "Mindset" is essential for that.
Daniel also doesn't cover much of the neuroscience behind changing habits or why some people are more disciplined than others. Without touching on this, some readers may lean towards poo-pooing some of this information off as the authors' opinion. But I don't knock Daniel for this because I don't think it's needed here. There are plenty of other resources that go in-depth on the science behind the methods provided here for those who are interested in that data.
This book feels like a survival guide for discipline and changing habits, and I found this to be a fantastic little reference. I have already started implementing several of the new ideas provided. The 40% rule really sticks with me for example. I will definitely use this alongside other books and resources, as well as my daily meditation. ;)
For anyone wanting a toolbox for creating a new direction and finally achieving some of your goals or changing habits, you can't go wrong with this book. I definitely recommend it.

Interesting in 40% rule and self-discipline for unconfortable
Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2020
Some rules are not new, and 40% Rule is different. The author uses Navy SEAL and Shaolin's monk practice as examples for self-discipline, they are very cool and impressive.
Exercises and guides are similar to other self-help and the most important suggestion of this book: "Do, don't try" and explain Try is near to disaster, especially in case:
- Less accountability, less Recognition
- Often frustrated and anxiety with how much to full-fill (trying something)
- No need to archive the goal.
At last, very thanks and gratitude to the author because of the encouragement for establishing the new habit (complete entire this book), and I think a lot of readers will do and practice small habit.

Good reminders about pursuing goals.
Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2020
With retirement looming ahead and feeling like my time is waning professionally, I’m comfortable with the life I’ve built but wanted to give it one last “all in” effort to make sure I don’t regret not doing something meaningful and important before age and finances make it more difficult to do so. Raised the firstborn of four in a military home, I’m no stranger to disciple and pushing towards goals. Somehow in the last ten years or so I got comfortable and this book reminded me of what’s important to achieve anything important in life and gave me the mental push I needed to “try anything.” This suburban girl with a corporate job is learning to ride a horse, plant a garden and raise chickens because why not? A quick and thought provoking read, I appreciated the nudge to set and pursue some new and interesting goals.

The Power of Discipline: How to Use Self Control and Mental Toughness to Achieve Your Goals
Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2020
This book is written so thoroughly as to give each one of us the incentive and push towards developing Self-discipline, willpower, self-control, and self-regulation, which leads to developing a Mentally Tough character in a competitive world. Once we get the incentive and develop a mindset ...as the author explains...we will be able to press on and achieve our goals.
Walter has linked self-discipline with accomplishment and well being. It is an amazing book that has helped me to push forward with confidence to actually set goals and achieve them.
This is one of the best books changing our thought patterns...to develop a positive attitude toward self-discipline and self-control. To help and teach us to make the our mind tough in order to achieve our goals.
This book ... I highly recommend ...as it will not only enhance your ability to understand and control your mindset, emotions, .. but will also give you the tools to foster the emotional intelligence to achieve many of the goals we set for ourselves.

New Information makes this book worth the read!
Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2020
As a bit of a junkie when it comes to self development books, I would have been happy to read a book that presents even information I already have if it is presented in a new and compelling way. But I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this book not only accomplishes that feat handily, it also had a fair bit of new information and research that I had yet to ever come across - a bonus that makes this book a worthy read.
The book is well written - easy to read and covers a fair bit of ground. The tone is pleasant and avoids the potential trap of hectoring - an easy fallback position when the primary concept is about self discipline. Instead, Daniel Walter focuses on the benefits of self control, and interprets "discipline" as mental toughness - a worthy goal in its own right.
Walter is supportive in his approach - and helps you overcome self criticism with explanations of why we all resist change, and helping you identify what may be hindering your own sense of self discipline.
Overall, he sells us on why self discipline is in our own best interest and how mental toughness can be harnessed to support our goals.
I think he did a good selling job, and provided me with some good new tips on how to improve my approach to goals.
Worth the read.

I needed self-discipline in my life badly and this book put things into a different perspective. At first I was skeptical because it just seemed like “common sense”, but the author really dived deep in different strategies and some of the things I read I had heard about before. The difference was the way he presented these strategies and ideas. It’s really motivated me to keep reading and start creating a discipline for myself to be successful. Highly recommend! Also I never write reviews unless it really impacts me good or bad. This is worth reading!

I really liked everything about and within the book. I'm a military veteran of 26 years and was a pretty good athlete. But since those days are long gone it's easy to fall into bad habits and behaviors that are counter productive and will delay or deny you your full potential. Reading this book helped me get back on the right track of consistency in my habits of work, physical, eating, spiritual, and overall living. I keep it on my desk as a constant reminder for how important DISCIPLINE is to be developed and maintained in one's life. STRONGLY RECOMMEND it be added to your library for Personal Development.

This book was wonderful. I am currently like every other American who has set goals for 2021 in hopes they will be more successful than last year. After reading this book I decided to implement two things into my daily routine and stick to them, morning and evening meditation and consistent focus on waking up earlier in the morning. This book gave me some very useful tools and even more inspiration to achieve and become the person I am going to be, the better version of myself. I read the whole book in one sitting - recovering from Covid currently so I had a little bit of time on my hands. Now I’m going to go stretch for 10 mins and meditate for another 10 mins. I am actually going to be giving this book to a coworker next for her to read!

I spend alot of time working with men in rehabilitation centers and many are looking for ways to get on with their lives but don't seem to have the tools. There are many areas discussed in this book that can directly and easily help change their lives for the better. In particular, there is a chapter on the difference between trying and doing. I basically taught that this week and honestly, you could hear a pin drop in the room.

I have received a lot of training from others such as Dale Carnegie that resonated as I was reading the chapters in this book. I found a lot of useful things in most of the book and intend to revisit it again. After reading the Power of Discipline I noticed that I was already on my journey of discipline and found more goals to achieve through the book.
