David Davis Jeff Lerner Review

Meet David Davis from Tennessee. He really enjoyed his journey with ENTRE Institute. He’s been working in the supply chain his entire career and it was time for something different. He wanted to free up his time and gain more control in his life. ENTRE’s training program has shown him the possibilities of online business. He started his own consulting business and affiliate marketing business. It’s been an awesome journey for him and a mind-blowing experience.

Today I’m interviewing Former Professional Skateboarder, Mikey Taylor!

Even if you don’t want to become a professional skater, you have a lot to learn from Mikey Taylor.

Because not only is he a former professional skater, he’s also:

🍺 Brewery Founder

💰 Investment Fund Manager

He knows what it takes to be great (even when you’re NOT naturally gifted or talented).

If you’re sitting there thinking that YOU don’t have what it takes to make your dreams come true?

Mikey Taylor is about to prove you wrong.

Mikey was a professional skateboarder for almost 2 decades, but there’s something surprising about his skateboarding career you might not know.

For the longest time, he was the WORST skater among his group of skater friends.

It took him longer to learn balance.

It took him longer to learn tricks.

And he did NOT take to it ‘like a duck to water’ like you might have imagined.

So, how is it that Mikey got to a higher professional level than his friends ever did?

How did Mikey outskate some of the best skaters he’d ever met, when he wasn’t naturally talented at skateboarding?

Find out here! (It’s not what you think!)

Best Resource for Aspiring Travel Writers

Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2016

This book is the most useful resource I've found on how to become (profitable!) travel writer right now. Travel Writing 2.0 provides real-life examples and strategies on how to get published and paid for your writing. Tim focuses on authentic, long-term strategies to build your career as a travel writer - instead of vague, dated, or short-term tips. Tim not only uses his own personal experience but includes advice from over 100 other successful travel writers. It's helpful to get a peek into how travel writers make money and spend their time - something that I haven't found in other books or guides.

Let's be real - many books on this topic offer short-term tips and *inspiring* quotes about how to live the life of your travel writer dreams without actually giving you the meat and bones on how to do that. Thankfully, this book is not like that. This book is realistic while motivating, steering you in a clear direction of what to do with your valuable time. Tim knows what he's talking about and is very open in sharing how he has become so successful.

A few topics that were most useful/eye-opening for me:

-Guidebook Writing - I had no idea so much work went into writing guidebooks. This book really helped me decide whether or not I'd pursue doing one.

-Perks and Profit - Again, I had a really hard time finding this info before reading the book.

-... Well, the entire section on traditional earning opportunities - It's possible to still make money with these!

-Social Media - This chapter will make you look at social media in an entirely new way.

I bought the first edition of this book in 2014 and have kept it nearby as a resource ever since. While the first edition is still relevant, I'm glad to have updated advice on-hand when tackling how to write for different publishers. Investing in this book has saved me money from buying other guides/courses since all of the info you need is in here.

On top of that he;s just one hell of a nice guy. That's saying a lot. This book is an honest, direct primer for what it takes, although I would also suggest getting online with Tim if you're really serious. But that's just me. The book is a terrific start.

It's a genuinely useful (and highly readable) guide for aspiring travel writers and bloggers in the digital era, and also for established travel writers who are eager to reinvent themselves as traditional markets such as newspaper travel sections and magazines continue to shrink.(I earn my living as a travel writer and Web publisher, and TRAVEL WRITING 2.0 has taught this old dog some new tricks.)

Real World Travel Writing Advice - Buy this if you plan to do any travel writing!

Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2020

In "Travel Writing 2.0", Tim does not sugar coat the travel writing business. He tells you in plain english what is working and what isn't. It's a great read! His comments about social media cracked me up. I've almost finished the book and have really enjoyed it. I will read it again, at least once or twice, to catch all the timely advice.

I especially like the quotes and interviews with travel writers in the field today. They each approach writing from quite a few different angles. Some write exclusively for print and others ghost write for publications. Some travel writers earn their living from blogs, courses, or tours.

Tim covers topics including press trips (e.g. "free" travel), promotion, finding a niche, part-time vs. full-time writing, books vs blogs vs magazines vs guidebooks, and making money. The Resources section will save you time and help you hit the ground running.

The most helpful aspect of Tim's book is the reality check. There's no fluff here or empty promises of writing success. It takes work, but he outlines a number of ways to write in/for the travel industry. After reading it, you'll be able to decide whether or not you really want to do this and put in the effort.

"Travel Writing 2.0" lays the groundwork on which to build your travel writing career (or side-gig). If you are considering some aspect of travel writing, I suggest that you order a copy and read it this weekend. Good luck!

A refreshingly honest look at what it takes to make a living as a travel writer in this day and age. Honest because the book steers clear of any "get rich quick" notions and underlines just how hard the modern travel writer has to work to succeed.

In fact, the book explains how the very meaning of "travel writer" has changed, and how to succeed you must also be a digital marketer, blogger, social media expert, PR-savvy, and so much more. Tim is making a living doing these things so he knows what he's talking about, but he's backed up by a whole heap of other modern travel writers making a living doing what they love. An excellent read full of actionable advice, I cannot recommend it enough!

One of the best guides available and an honest approach to travel writing

Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2016

Tim has a unique approach to the subject, which is that – in addition to imparting his own knowledge and experience – he incorporates opinions and advice from a good number of other travel writers and bloggers, a collective of those who have achieved a level of success....the result is that Travel Writing 2.0 feel less like a “do this then do that” lecture and more like an instructor-led discussion group.

First let me say that this is NOT a book about how to write, or how to improve your skill at writing (aside from several reminders that in order to get good at anything, one must practice a lot), or how to become a writer. In order to become a professional writer you simply must have some skill and experience, and he assumes – rightly so – that you should come to this book with those already under your belt. This is a book about the business end of being a travel writer and how to make a living at it.

And as such, I think it’s brilliant. Tim’s unvarnished approach makes clear that the only reason anyone should get into/be in/stay in this business is for a love of writing. Loving to travel is great, but loving to write is a must. Not just a passing crush, but a passionate love. Of educating others through words. Of inspiring others to travel. Of making the world a smaller place, more connected, by helping others to see it through your words.

And this is what I really liked most about Tim’s book: Although full of good practical advice, he doesn’t sugar-coat anything, doesn’t gloss over the harsh reality of actually getting paid – or not getting paid – to write. Buzzkill it may be, but it needs to be shouted from the rooftops.

Another thing I truly loved about this book is that it’s also filled with practical, useful tips that range from examples of query letters to what types of expenses freelancers can write off on their taxes.

If a wanna-be writer finishes this book and is still determined to follow their passion into the world of professional writing, then he or she will stand a much better chance of actually becoming one of the lucky, successful ones.

The nanosecond acceleration towards digital media and away from the print world, so distinctive in all things travel-related, has not only changed the way travel content is created, but also how travel writing is published, marketed, and "consumed" by an ever-growing global readership. In fact, we live in a time when readers of travel writing include travel authors themselves, whether professionally, as freelancers, via blogs, or social media.

A Bible for the Wannabe and for the Professional Travel Writer Alike

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 22, 2016

I bought the first edition of Tim's book and learned a lot from it. One thing that stood out was the way Tim made me question my long-held belief that as a professional writer you should never write for free. he argued that there were occasions when you should. So when I was offered the opportunity to write for The Huffington Post for free, I thought I'd try it and see how it worked out. (You can always try things and if they don't work you can drop them.)

Well, as a result of writing for The Huffington Post for free, I was approached by the editor of an inflight magazine who commissioned me to write a piece for him on a subject I'd done on The Huffington Post. He paid me $750. He recently commissioned what will be my fourth piece for him at the same fee, and another little contribution to a round-up feature he's doing.

Tim asked me to read a preview copy of the new edition, to check for errors, which I was happy to do. I noticed he recommended MediaBistro's AvantGuild service, which I didn't know about. It costs $55, and gives you access to pitching guidelines. So I followed Tim's advice, read a few of the guidelines, pitched one of the travel websites on there... and sold a piece for $350, which I hope will lead to other sales.

They're just two examples of how I've profited (financially and personally) from Tim's advice. I've now bought the finished version as I wanted it on my Kindle and my iPad, so I can go through it again and make notes, and not just as the PDF Tim sent me.

Oh, another thing I really liked is that Tim says that this isn't a book about how to write. It's about how to sell and market yourself and be more successful. He points out that there are plenty of books out there that will teach you how to improve your writing - and as a travel writer you're a writer who happens to write about travel, and you'll benefit from any book that tries to improve your writing, no matter the genre. Tim recommends a few very good books about writing (I've read some of them and they're good choices), and focuses on what he is good at - sharing his wisdom on how to be successful in the travel writing field. I guarantee that anyone who either wants to be or who already is a travel writer will benefit from reading this book.

This is an excellent guide to the business of travel writing from a master of his craft. It's not so much about how to pen a perfectly formed article, more about the business landscape of travel writing in a digital age and how you can prosper as a travel writer. Tim's advice is real and grounded based on his own success in making a business out of the many travel writing possibilities that exist today. The book is packed with great tips as well as insights from successful travel writers and should definitely on the reading list for anyone who aspires to make a career out of writing.

Another home run for Tim Leffel. When I read the first edition of this book, I was excited to have so much excellent (and sometimes brutally honest) information in one place. This new version has all of the great info, truth and inspiration that the first book had, but with more input from other great professionals and it's more relevant to the online and offline blogger / travel writer climate of 2016 and beyond. I've been blogging and writing full time for 4 years and I learned a lot from the pages of this book. Excellent find!

Great info. It got me thinking more clearly about my plans for the next few years of my life. A 5 for the info. A 4 for the writing (there are typos and several run-on sentences -- hey, I'm a charter member of the Grammar Police!).

A good and honest book about travel writing

Travel Writing is really easy to read, and really helpful. I just loved it, I've read a few books and articles about traveling but this is so honest and shows the travel media world as it is today, it tells you what it takes to make it in a really honest and practical way. What I also liked, was the fact that offers a lot of quotes from successful writers and thanks to that started following lots of people quoted in this book.

If you are interested in breaking into travel writing and want really good and useful tips, this book is really worth the investment.
